Maytag recalling 1.7 million dishwashers

Maytag recalled 1.7 million dishwashers that were made between February 2006 and april 2010. An electrical problem in the dishwashers apparently can cause it to start on fire. The dishwasher at my house actually was one of these i think. A few weeks ago it started to smoke, and we had to shut it off and not use it for a few days. Im pretty sure it was a maytag. Then we got a new one from the manufacturer. So i guess we were lucky it didn't start a fire.

Wounded taxi driver 'watched friend shot in face'

Cumbrian gunman Derrick Bird shot and killed twelve people, and then shot himself. A taxi driver got shot in the back with a shotgun, by Derrick. Derrick pulled up next to him, raised his shotgun, and fired. The taxi driver dove just in time and the bullet just grazed his back. His military training then kicked in as he crawled away, using cars for cover. The shooter then drove away, shooting other taxi drivers in the town. The wierd thing is that the shooter was also a taxi drive, and was friends with most of the people he shot. He even went on vacation to Thailand with some of them.

Mom of toddler smoker in Indonesia seeks help for him

Two-year-old Aldi, from Indonesia, smokes, and is obese, nearly twice the size he is supposed to be. He smokes an average of 40 cigarettes daily. The mother sais she's confused and she said "What am i supposed to do?" She said she even forbade him from smoking. He is freakin 2 years old, if you don't give him cigarettes there's no other way for him to get them, so just stop giving them to him, who cares if he cries! That's my opinion. I think the mother should be put in jail, and have Aldi sit in a play pen for a week without having any cigarrettes, and who cares if he cries, or throws a tantrum.

HP to cut workforce by 3,000

Hewlett-Packard plans to cut 3,000 jobs over the next few years as it ramps up its use of automated data centers for business customers, the company announced Tuesday. They are planning to invest 1 billion dollars into these new automated data centers. HP will cut about 9,000 jobs in its enterprise services division as a result, but over the same time period, the company expects to add about 6,000 employees to its sales and delivery teams.
A lot of people think that HP is doing something wrong here, and that it's wrong to fire people. But it's a business, not a charity. A business tries to make as much money as possible. I know if i ran a business and if i fired people my business would do better, I'd do it in a heart beat.

Nearly 150 dead from weekend storm in Central America

A topical storm in Guatamala has killed 123 people so far, with another 90 missing and 69 injured. Guatemala also is feeling the effect of the Pacaya volcano, which erupted Thursday night and continued to spew ash Tuesday. Three people were killed when they were crushed by rocks strewn by the volcano. As a result of a landslide, caused by a storm, a big sink hole has appeared. It's actually really cool, i think, that something like that can happen. It looks like a big hole going straight through the earth (See picture below).

Turkey slams Israel for 'bloody massacre'

Israel's closest Muslim ally accused the Jewish state Tuesday of a "bloody massacre" against an aid flotilla of six ships carrying humanitarian goods bound for blockaded Gaza. As a result there will be no transportation of people or supplies in or out of Gaza. Israeli soldiers rappelled onto the deck of the ships from a helicopter. The boarding of the ships took place in international waters more than 70 nautical miles (130 km) outside Israeli territorial waters, according to IHH, one of the flotilla organizers. The six ships were carrying more than 10,000 tons of aid and 600 passengers from more than 20 countries, according to the Free Gaza Movement.

That's bad that Israeli soldiers rappelled onto the decks of ships, outside of their territory, and murdered all those people.

Robots to begin cuts to gushing well

The oil has been gushing out of that thing for so long now, it's been constantly putting out oil for weeks now. It will take a long time to recover from that, and they should have been prepared for stuff like this. Now he wants robots to go down and cut the hole bigger, so he can fit a custom made cap on it. The long term solution is drilling two relief valves, which will be done in august, which is a lot of oil spilling into the ocean untill then. Government estimates are that up to 19,000 barrels (798,000 gallons) of oil a day are flowing into the Gulf. And it started on April 20th, so it's been like 45 days!

All Things Being Unequal:

Between 1974 and 2004 the income going to the wealthiest 20% of household income increased from 45.4% to 53.5%. while the share of the bottom 20% decreased from 5.8% to 4.1%. Today the distance between top earners and the middle class is growing. As middle class face higher costs for healthcare, energy, child care, food, education, and retirement. But few agree on what, if anything, the government should do. Proponents also argue that the government should increase taxes on the wealthiest Americans and reduce taxes on middle-class and low-income workers to more fairly redistribute the nation's wealth. People in poverty also get help from the government, like the food stamp program, and also welfare .

I don't think that taxes should be raised on wealthy people, and lowered on middle-class, and poor people. Just because someone is succesful, and makes a lot of money, doesn't mean he/she doesn't deserve that money. They work hard to make that money, and they have a lot of responsibilities. A lot of wealthy people own their own business, and if they were taxed more, then they would have less money for their business, and couldn't hire as many people. If someone takes risks, and starts their own business, and it becomes successful, why should they be taxed more? Their already giving over 30% of their salary to the government, why should it be raised? Or someone who works hard and rises in a company.

Stupid Pirates

So some more Somali pirates attacked a U.S. navy frigate. The frigate returned fire, and captured the stupid pirates, and sunk their boat. Why would 3 somali pirates on a little boat shoot at a huge navy frigate? They fired on the frigate then started to run away, but the navy caught up with them, obviously. It reminds me of that episode of south park where cartman, butters, and other people went to be pirates, and Cartman was like the captain of the pirates, but then the U.S. navy shot all the pirates.

Anti-abortion activist to be sentenced in doctor's slaying

So the guy killed a doctor that does abortions, i still think he should go to jail for murder. He said he had to do it to save the babies lives, but it's the women making the choice to abort, not the doctor, and just because that doctor is dead doesn't mean they can't do abortions. They will just go to a different doctor, so killing him was pointless. So i think he should still get life in prison.

Beheading planned in Saudi sorcery case

This news article made me laugh, how dumb can some people be? A guy in Saudi Arabia had a television show where people called in and he predicted their future. Then the religious police of Saudi Arabia arrested him for SORCERY! They think he's a sorcerer, and he has magical powers. The jury actually found him guilty of sercery and sentenced him to death, by beheading I guess. First of all if you thought someone was an actual sorcerer and could tell the future, wouldn't you want to keep him alive to TELL YOU THE FUTURE? Also if you thought he actually was a sorcerer with magical powers, why would you want to upset him by arresting him, and sentencing him to death? If he actually had powers, and that's what they think, couldn't he cast a spell on you, and make you go insane and kill everyone that was involved in arresting him. Or couldn't he just teleport out of the jail cell?

Haiti gets nearly $10B

So haiti has gotten nearly 10 billion dollars in donations for reconstruction, and food and shelter and stuff. The U.S. pledged 1.15 billion. Now, don't get me wrong, Haiti needs our help, and people should help them, but donating that much when our unemployment is high, and we have people in the U.S. that need help as much as Haiti. So I think we should put some of that money to help the people losing their homes in the U.S. too. I also think it's dumb that the whole world started donating after the earthquake destroyed everything, wouldn't it be better to help build better buildings in places like that before disasters happen?

HealthCare

Having universal healthcare will give a lot of people healthcare that don't have it, but the upper and middle classes will have higher taxes to pay for it. So should the government supply healthcare? Or should it be the individual that has to pay for themselves. And should we get rid of social security, medicare, and medicaid? I personally think that we should, and that we should save our own money to support ourselves in the future.

I think that the individual should be responsible for getting themselves healthcare. We shouldn't have to pay more than what we are paying so other people can have healthcare. I don't think we should have to pay for other peoples things is what im saying. I think we should get rid of social security, medicaid, and medicare, people should save their money when they are young and working, and put a little bit away each week/month so they have enough to retire without other people paying for them.

NBA star gets 5-year sentence for murder

A former NBA star, Jason Williams got 5 years in prison for murder. I think its dumb that he only got 5 years for murder. He shot his limo driver on accident in 2002 while he was messing with a shotgun, and he didn't get a sentence untill 8 years later? He even tried to cover up the muder, making it look like the limo driver shot himself, if a normal person did that they would be getting atleast 20 years probably, but because he's rich and famous he gets it easy. I think that isn't right or fair.

Money shouldn't beable to get you out of murder, just because he gave the mans family 2.75 million dollars doesn't mean anything, the guy is still dead, and you get sent to jail for killing someone, not making their family go through the loss.

Spending what you can afford

Concerned with government spending and the national deficit, congress passed a pay-as-you-go, also known as paygo, in 2007 to help stop the national debt from rising. It requires that any tax cuts or increases in entitlement spending be offset with spending reductions elsewhere. It basically means the government can't spend more than it makes, if it wants to start a program that will make it spend more, it has to shut down another program to pay for it, or find the money another way.

I agree with the pay-as-you-go budgeting plan. The national debt is currently at 11.4 trillion, thats about 40,000 dollars per american, and it keeps rising. The interest on the national debt was about 456 billion dollars last year, and if the national debt keeps rising the interest will rise as well. If we dont do something to stop the rising debt or there will be consequences. If the government doesn't stop spending now, and the debt gets to high, they will have to raise taxes and cut government programs in order to help pay for it. I agree with Tom Raum from the Associated Press, he agrees with the paygo program and that if the government doesn't stop spending there will be consequences to all americans. "Unless we demonstrate a strong commitment to fiscal sustainability in the longer term, we will have neither financial stability nor healthy economic growth," Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke recently told Congress.

Milk Shake murderer

I think it's dumb that she is getting a retrial. She admitted to killing her husband and all the evidence pointed to her. Shes getting a retrial because she claims it was self defence? she killed him by hitting him in the head with a metal ornament while he was sleeping, after she poisoned his milk shake, how is that self defence? she rolled him up in a sleeping bag, towels wrapped around that, then a carpet, then plastic sheets tied with ropes and tape, and then 4 cushions secured by tape. A person wouldnt wrap a body up that good and leave it in your storeroom for 4 days if it was self defence, to me it sounds like she is crazy and should get life in prison with no parole.

Glaciers in meltdown?

I don't know if i believe in global warming or not, i don't see any hard evidence of it being true, and those scientists lied about how bad global warming was. They lied about how bad it was getting to get people to start being more green? It just ended up making it worse because now some people think that global warming isn't a big deal and that all the numbers were. The pictuers i saw on cnn showed that glaciers are melting, but haven't glaciers been melting since the ice age? so idk
